Product Orders
“Create Your Own” garments require an in-studio or video consultation to discuss fabric, measurements, and final price. The video consultation has a booking fee that will be deducted from the final cost of the garment. Once the customisations on your garment are finalised, the payment can be made and the garment begun!
Customised garments will be finalised once fabric selection is made. As all customised items are made-to-order, no refunds can be issued after payment is made.
Being a slow fashion business, each item is made to measure after your order is placed.
This means only what is needed is made, allowing an increase in size ranges as well as tailored responses to customer needs. Some specialty fabrics may take longer to arrive and can increase the time for delivery. However, you will be notified in advance.
If you need your customised garment for a special occasion, please contact Mandy at hello@aletheia.nz to confirm if it is possible to rush your order. A 25% emergency fee may be charged. ReFAshion items may ship faster.
For more details regarding shipping, please click here. Items can be shipped within New Zealand and to Australia. Sorry, I do not ship to other countries at this time.
Please note shipping rates do NOT affect production speed. Customised garments are posted after completion (these garments will ship in less than 4 weeks after the consultation and payment are made).
Aletheia Apparel can cater for all sizes. Each of the “Create Your Own’ garments are made-to-measure. These are customised sizes.
Care
Aletheia garments made with natural fibres do not require as frequent washing. Airing out your garments between wear will extend how long you can go between washes.
Hand washing is always the best option; however, a gentle machine wash is acceptable. Please use a wool wash for merino. It is also highly recommended to use a wash bag to avoid snagging or excessive wear on the fibres.
These ribbons are for hanging your garment while keeping its shape, although not all Aletheia garments have them. You can stuff them into the garment during wear.
Aletheia offers repairs for the life of all customised garments. Whether it’s the dog’s fault or just normal wear and tear, your garment can receive extended life with our repair service. Negligence or improper care may result in repairs that alter the original garment and may incur a cost. Creativity and aesthetics will be considered when repairing your garments.
Simply drop by the studio or send your garment to:
ALETHEIA APPAREL (Repairs)

NOTE – Please make sure to include your name, return address, and repair work needed. Garments and repairs undertaken with creative mending as assessed when received.
Re-Fashion
All ReFashion garments are particularly focused on sustainable or waste reduction methods. These can include zero-waste pattern cutting, multi-purpose designs, and/or utilising textile waste. Second-hand fibres are featured in many of these designs (whether recycled garments or new items created from rescued fabrics).
The waste reduction technique will be noted with each garment.
Garment prices reflect the work and materials put into the item to achieve a pleasing and functional item. Some pieces require more work to salvage textile waste.
All ReFashion items are first offered to newsletter subscribers. Some garments may be available in local shops or purchased in the shop.
Unfortunately, ReFashion items are primarily one-off garments. The size offered is the only size available in that particular garment, and once it’s gone–it’s gone. However, the Aletheia sizing is forgiving and may fit different than your normal fast fashion size.
Alterations
The time spent in evaluating fabric, construction, and fit is a result of expertise and skill. You are paying for the knowledge of which adjustments are needed and the time needed to properly assess your garment.
In a world of fast fashion, clothing has become quite cheap–both in quality and in price. The cost of alterations reflects the needed skill, equipment, and time needed to undo and then redo the necessary adjustments. Sometimes there is a need for a complete redesign.
It is always easier and better to have a garment sewn properly and to the proper measurements at the beginning of cutting & construction. This is why Aletheia offers made-to-measure garments.
Bridal work is much more specialised and often requires couture techniques of construction. The fabrics used also need special handling and expertise.
Desiring your complete satisfaction, Aletheia Apparel offers free alterations for 30 days from receipt of the garment. If you would like alterations done after this time, please contact here to discuss options.
Sustainability
There are many ways in which Aletheia strives to be sustainable: utilising a variety of waste reduction methods such as Zero-Waste pattern design, multi-function garments, textiles sourced from industry off-cuts; recycling garments & fibres, and offering made-to-measure options for proper fit & lasting wear.
Products are made on demand so that there are no overstocks and wastage. Aletheia Apparel operates with the assumption that less consumption is foundational.
All Aletheia products are made and most are also designed in New Zealand. Supplies are sourced from New Zealand businesses as much as possible. Everything is constructed and finished in the studio in Rolleston.
As good quality materials mean longer use, Aletheia Apparel prefers to source primarily natural fibres that are high in quality. These include, but are not limited to, tencel (lyocell), viscose, cotton, linen, wool, and bamboo. When used to increase wearability, nylon or elastane are sometimes utilised in small amounts within the fibres.
Re-Fashion items may be made from rescued fibres of unknown content. Product composition information is available on each product’s page, when known. Buttons, scarf rings & belt rings are made from a zinc alloy (metal that will resist chipping and breaking).
Miscellaneous
Yes, absolutely! Making customised designs with your fabric is a wonderful (and cost saving) option. This can all be discussed at the video consultation and will be reflected in the final price of the garment.
Yes, of course! If you love any previous designs or ones you have seen offered elsewhere, you may be able to order these by getting in touch. A video consultation may be needed to work out details for your garment.
Although it would be great for you to continue to wear and use your Aletheia Apparel, circular fashion is an important feature of responsible fashion. Because of this, please send your garment back to the studio to receive a $20 credit to be used on your next purchase.
PLEASE NOTE – This only applies to Aletheia Apparel garments.
Newsletter subscribers are given first priority to purchase Re-Fashion garments. Second-hand items in refurbished condition is the best option for discounted prices for Aletheia Apparel.
